Consumer reports did a test a while back and found that the Clearblue Easy was the best, and I've always had good luck with it.
Now, clearblue makes a digital test--it gives you a smiley face when your surge is detected. It's expensive--$30 for 7 tests.
The third option is also by clearblue, their Fertility monitor. It costs about $150 and a box of 30 sticks is $30. You test when it tells you to and it interprets the results and shows you either a low, high, or peak reading.

The best one out there is by far the Clear Blue Easy Fertility Monitor. Its like a mini computer. Check out their website. They can be a little bit expensive, about 150$ but well worth it. It tells you the 2 days before ovulation and then also tells you when you are going to release an egg, its a really great piece of equipment. And you can reuse it in the future. Im using it right now, and I love it. It takes all the guess work out of the ovulation thing. You can find it for a 100$ in Ebay, that is where I got mine from. So just read up on it, and you will see that it does not even compare to the regular kits. Good Luck.

Clear Blue do an ovulation kit now which are really good. Your ovulation begins (I think) 16 days from the start of your last period, so count from the first day you started not when you finished. Type in Ovulation on google and it will tell you the average days of ovulation. Good luck! I just had my first baby and can remember the excitement, its great.

I tried the inexpensive ones where you saw two lines if you were ovulating, but they had to be of equal darness, etc. Very similar to what you are describing. I also found that difficult.
So I spend a little bit more (okay, about twice as much) and bought the EPT digital ovulation kit that showed a smiley face if you were ovulating, or a blank circle if you were note. I found that to be much more effective. Good luck!

I never was able to get the kit to work for me. I don't think they're worth spending the money on. I tried having sex every other day starting when my period ended and I used preseed. Got preggers the first "official" month of trying!

www.preseed.com

Have fun trying!

i actually got mine from my doctor and i was sketchy about the lines... luckily, i had the doctor perform a blood test to make sure i was ovulating, because i was having an iui done and they had to be certain... when i did use them, i started using them 4 days after my cycle ended and used them until i got a positive result.
