There is NO common law relationship in California. You can live together forever and still not be married. However, you can also live together for a week or two and have financial obligations to each other, depending on the promises that are made.

California no longer has what once was refered to as "Common Law Marriage". Very few states any longer uphold this. The time frame use to be between 7-10 yrs depending on the state.

Legally, it doesn't matter. But after 5 years, people considered you married.
