I am doing a presentation in my Tolken and Philosophy class about the comparison between Odysseus (The Odyssey) and Frodo (Lord of the Ring). The comparisons can be about their characteristics, their journey, their struggles, ETC. What should I be looking for so I can better my presentation? Do you have any suggestions and ideas for the presentation? Also, any quotes from either book(s) would be of great help.

I'd start with one, then compare to the other. The comparison is obviously there but few people think of it ...

The adventurer, off on a quest, looking for something that is noble and true. There are friends and companions but ultimately it comes down to just the one person and what they are able to accomplish, on their own, in their own soul. They are both confronted with odd and weird challenges and conflicts, but the main conflict, in both, beyond what they go through, is an internal one.

A good start would be to compare the fact that booth characters wants to get back home. Another comparision (especially if you can extend your work to the first part of the duology, the iliade) is the wars described in both books. I think that you would find them quite simular! Johan
