You need a phone line for DSL
You need "cable" TV for cable Internet
Check your local provider for either for their deals, and decide.

You need a phone line for broadband DSL But you have the option of going with satellite through a site like Hughes Net (www.hughesnet.com) or through your cable company like Charter Communications (www.charter.com).

You need a cable TV line for Broadband (sometimes installation fees are waived & other deals made), but you do NOT have to buy the TV service, just the Broadband service.
You need a telephone line for DSL service, NOT Broadband.
DSL is usually slower, cheaper than Broadband, but if your neighborhood uses Broadband [sharing] a lot then that slows
your Broadband connection.

Verizon seems to dominate certain markets (not to say it is the best), Comcast et al. -- Ask for the most deals in your area.

log on to the internet and do a btspeedtest this will tell you how fast your line is. you will probably find you have a slow connection, any broadband supplier will be stuck with the same speed.

Yep! I'm thinking of signing up for covad. My spouse and I both have mobile phones, so I thought we'd get away with dropping our home phone service, so I checked...but NOOOOOO. Gotta keep it.
