The only sure-fire way of preventing this from happening again is to euthanize anyone with a potentially violent mental illness. Is anyone willing to support that idea? Yeah, me neither.

1. Reform the laws related to the mentally ill. If not for the safety of others, surely then, for the recovery of that person.

2. Better emergency procedures in places where large assemblies of people congregate at any given time i.e. schools, office buildings, churches, etc. If we need to install bullhorns and flashing lights on top of buildings then so be it......

3. Truly, we need some reform of the existing gun laws. Maybe even some new laws. We have to make sure that people who seek to do harm or are of unstable mind or intend to engage in a criminal enterprise have a difficult time getting their hands on these very lethal weapons. Some kind of testing/evaluation is in order. Also, I don't understand a law that allows you to be a gun every 30-days. What does a private individual need with an arsenal? Can't be for anything good...

4. Last but not least.....we need to make a solemn vow of "no more". How much do we care about the victims? Do we care enough to change how we operate? Or do we care more about the killer that we would rather defend his right to lawfully acquire a weapon? This can not be about ideology.

In a free society? Nothing.

Even if you totally outlawed guns then instead of Cho walking into a local gun store and registering for a gun, he buys one out of back of a truck in a dark alley. And probably gets it for even cheaper. The war on drugs proves that outlawing substances does not make them go away one bit. And the same would happen with guns.

And then if your start monitoting people, and pulling them in just for strange behavior then we become a police state and you hear half the country whining about how we have become like the USSR.

Bottom line is that these types of things are going to happen until the end of time.

1. We need to review our procedures and requirements for involuntary treatment of mental patients. Out of concern for patients' rights, it has become extremely difficult to commit a psychotic, irrational person for treatment. This results in harm to many mental patients as well as to others as in this case.
2. The public should be educated about what to do in case of gunmen just as they learn about what to do in case of earthquake, tornado or hurricane. One class largely avoided being shot by blocking the door with a table; Cho went on to another classroom that was easier to get into.
3. Maybe we should allow certain permitted individuals to carry concealed weapons in public. These massacres don't happen, or are quickly stopped, where some of the population is armed.

I don't have a short term answer but i think society should just treat people better. Students, especially, need to stop picking on kids, calling them names, throwing stupid comments at them because you never know what a person has to deal with daily in his or her life. Something small could just push them over the edge as in the case of Cho.

We need to start living in harmony with each other.

CHANGE OUR ATTITUDES!!!

Stand up for less fortunate kids, even if that means geting teased your self. i was mean when i was younger but quickly grew out of it and started standing up for other kids and it defenatly feels alot better standing up for some one then putting them down. one person standing up fo some one once can make a world of difference it definatly could of for 33 peopl the other day.

I read that this guy wrote plays that were very disturbing, and he was referred for counseling. People should wake up and take notice when this happens, and do something about it.

When you see someone who is a loner, go up to them and talk to them. Don't make fun of them, because that only causes more hate.

Nothing really, these types of things are random and can happen anywhere, anytime, unfortunately.

OBVIOUSLY this guy wanted MEDIA ATTENTION. If the media would QUIT SENSATIONALIZING these sick people, what would their motive be?
