Don't let the answers above confuse you. Americans don't own guns because it is their right. They own them and collect them and trade them and dream about them because Americans
LOVE
firearms.
You only have to visit a store like Cabellas which is a huge outdoor/sportsman outfitter mega-store. Inside is like a church devoted to the hunter. Dozens of stuffed and mounted deer and elk and ram adorn the walls all looking down on the sale of firearms to those who delight in the mere thought of holding and firing their very own rifle or pistol. There is even a special room that houses the holy of holies. The rare and very expensive guns. It's a shrine to some.
Americans equate owning firearms with ensuring their freedom. In fact, we have become enslaved by them.

Guns are as available to the public as news stories. More press coverage and you get more gun sales. I think we will see people waiting in line for the next game to come out at Wall Mart, where you can also check out the guns. One of the first things a Brit friend of mine did when he came to the States was buy a gun just to have one they wouldn't let him have over there. How dreadful chum, you may be right.

Because, gun control is an important topic. You don't start talking about it to react to an incident. You should put the proper laws in place before an incident happens, and not in response to an incident.
This incident should not be used as an excuse to cramp down on gun control laws. There is also the fact that the NRA is a huge industry, with many lobbyists. The firearms industry is a major player in America, and any attempt to diminish their stake is going to be met with political repurcussions.
Also, you get dumb answers like the one above me. Sure, people kill people, but do they really need an "easy button" to be able to do it?

Sould I read you an article in your precious Telegraph that talks about recent deaths in London. Yeah the victims were shot to death. How's that gun control thing working out for ya. Should I also mention how your National healthcare system is cutting costs by re-using bed sheets instead of washing them. The disease in the hospital has gone up some 40%. We don't want to follow your examples on either of those two issues. Cheri-O

Because to many criminals have them, thats why, and they absolutely will NOT get up off of them, so the people know better than to give up theirs, CRIME would soar in this country, if law abiding citizens give up their weapons. It happened in australia, go look at the statistics ,,,armed robbery went up 300% when they gave up guns because criminals kept them...go to this site, and look up the one page that talks about gun control. Its on other sites also, but this is the one I remember the best.

The issue of gun control is a hotly debated topic in America. Some want to ban all firearms, while at the other end of the spectrum, some want no restrictions whatsoever. Somehow our country needs to find a middle ground.

We Brits don't have a right to arms though.
Plus, the only major incident was Dunblane, and that was a terrible tradgedy.

I have a sneaky suspicion that this last shooting is some how tied to the anti gun lobby, in America anything is possible !!
