Everytime I see a question about abortion there is a pro-choice person asking how someone could let the government rule medical procedures. This is not a bash, because I am undecided on the issue, but here is the definition of a medical procedure:A medical procedure is a course of action intended to achieve a result in the care of patients, used by medical or paramedical personnel. What patient is being cared for during a partial birth abortion??

Please be carefull, I am not asking whose life is made eassier, but who is gaining care. And not all mothers who get abortions are in danger, medically speaking...

When I had a miscarriage, I had to have a D&C...dilation and curettage. That is comparable to a first trimester abortion....

I believe that partial birth abortions have just been banned in our country, as of yesterday.

Partial birth abortions are much more than a medical procedure. They often involve crushing the baby's head, and are obviously inhumane.

I am glad the legislation is being passed, but sadly must agree that abortion is a necessary choice in early pregnancy for certain women.

I don't think that partial birth abortion shoudl be allowed and I am celebrating the fact that it has been banned for the moment. The way I see it is there is enough technology in the medical field to keep a 20 week baby alive. There is no freaking need to kill it. And as far as the mother's life at risk, I don't really believe it. Yes I know women have complications from pregnancy and it can be life threatening but if a woman is pregnant and she loves this child and wants this child more than anything then she isn't going to kill it just to save her own life. She is going to try everything even if that means inducing labor, having that child and trying to save it no matter how premature it is. This partial birth abortion goes as far as some 16 year olds having babies and right as the head is crowning the doctor kills it so it doesn't take its first breath of air to declare it was a living thing. Breathing doesn't make you a living being, a heart beat makes you a living being. And that starts when a baby is 6 weeks in utero. I am completely against abortion, in all aspects of it. And I am currently pissed off at the sentate people here in SC because they are working on passing a bill that makes it illegal for a doctor to make a woman watch the ultrasound of the child she is getting ready to abort. I think every single woman who chooses to abort this innocent life they have taken a part in creating should be force to see it before she kills it. Abortion is not a medical procedure its an easy way out for irresponible people who can't have safe sex. But this is just the opinionated rant of just one person. I can't change the world.

This is a loaded question. Abortion is a messy and sometimes painful procedure, both physically and emotionally. You will get answers in here that are both pro choice and pro life. My opinion is that abortion should be illegal after a heartbeat is found simple because if it has a heart cant it feel pain??? It is the womans right to choose but i think some forget what adoption is all about. Some mothers are given post abortion councelling to help deal with the emotional stressors (at least the good clinics do!) Another thing, i dont think alot of mothers are told exactly whats going to happen to the fetus in a procedure like that. That in itself is murder. I am sorry to get graphic but jamming scissors into the back of a partially birthed childs head and sucking out the brain is MURDER!!!! I still cant believe that abortion at that stage is legal. Its sick.

I think the definition of medical procedure should prob be broaden these days. Think about the women who get botox and lipo. They are not actually being cared for, it is done to achieve a desired result. The fact that it requires a DR for the procedure in turn now makes it a medical procedure. I know this prob doesn't help but thought I would give a new perspective.

What we do not hear in the political debate regarding abortion is that partial-birth abortions make up VERY FEW of the abortions performed every year and they are always done as a last resort to save the mother's life. I am pro-choice, but I do believe that the way partial-birth is done is horrifying to think about. However, if the mother is going to die unless the procedure is done, I do find it necessary. This is a medical procedure based on the definition you put down. A conservative never delves into the scenarios. They just take it at face value. That's the problem with politics in general.

That patient would be the person having the abortion. If that person has made a choice not to go thru with the pregnancy then it is the doctor's job to respect that patients' wishes and perform the procedure; making sure that the patient receives the intended result, to terminate the pregnancy, and is properly cared for afterward. Hope that answered your question. All the best.

I will not get into the merits or non-merits or abortion, but I will say this. For the sake of discussion, let's say that having a baby would kill a certain female. If you want to make her "irresponsible" for getting pregnant, lets add that she is a 12 year old who was raped.
Now, who will be called to perform the abortion?
The 5 fascists on the supreme court and the majority of republicans would like to return to the "good ol' days" when this was done in back alleys by "butchers".
I submit it would be better to remain a medical procedure done by trained physicians.

Do you know what a partial birth abortion is?

It means that the baby is full term and just as the baby starts to crown they take out the brain. They are killing the baby before it gets to have it's first breath of air. Thanks to the goverment this can happen! So, of course they are going to just take care of the mother.

The court's ruling had everything to do with this actually--they actually ruled against it because there are safer, more effective alternatives to PBA.
Many medical procedures are elective and seemingly non-medical...that doesn't mean they are not medical.
