MSI K9VGM-V Socket AM2 VIA K8M890 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard this is the board i have.

does anybody know how to do this in great detail, or has anybody done this before with success?

I'm not familiar with your specific motherboard, but just get into the BIOS in the beginning by pressing your BIOS key (It'll say press X key to enter setup).

Then look for the option to raise the processor speed. Raise the Bus Speed by like 2 or 3 MHz at a time because the actual speed increase will be Bus Speed x Multiplier.

And as your computer starts becoming unstable, slightly raise the CPU voltage so it can get enough power. Just be sure you have adequate cooling for the CPU. It won't burn out or anything, but it'll be more unstable the hotter it gets.

More to it then what the last guy said. That is a good start, but especially on AMDs, there is more to do than what he just said.
