I don't think it's a "load of crap" profession... but give them some time, they're still working on it! It will be there soon.

Scientologists certainly don't believe it, but they are truly crazy
Psychoanalsis (Fruedian) is (imo) a bunch of nonsense as well.
Psychiatry has some. There are clearly described psychological conditions like bi-polar disorder and schitzophrenia that really require treatment.
There is a huge tendancy to over prescribe. A relative of mine was diagnosed with AD/HD and medicated. She's 16. Last time I saw her, she confessed to throwing the exam (IM'ing friends during it) so she would get diagnosed with AD/HD. You see, she wanted the pills becuase she thought they would "help her maintain her weight". And the docs all fell for it. There is an abdication of personal responsibility when parents and doctors are too quick to prescribe. Provides a false sense of caretaking.
Nut jobs like Cho need to be removed from society

It just depends. Some dr are all about putting you on meds so they get their kick backs from the pharmocutical world. Others really want to help. As far as the wack job being normal, that might not have been the dr fault. Lots of people with mental problems get passed over as normal. If a dr ask them if they are having suicidal thoughts and the person says no, the dr doesn't have a machine to look in his head and say he is lying. When you go to one of these drs you are supposed to want help and tell the truth. Maybe he didn't.

80 percent of children in foster care are on psychotropic drugs. Many of these children have some behavioral and/or emotional problems, which is perfectly understandable considering that their lives are turned upside down. But rather than address the underlying problems, the powers that be choose to simply pacify them with toxic medication (many of which has been shown to have long lasting and irreversible physical effects on the nervous system)
Also, notice the hundreds of pharmaceutical commercials on TV aimed at convincing people that if they are feeling sad or dissatisfied or disillusioned about their lives and the BS “American Dream” that they were sold (seeing as how the middle class is disappearing), they can just take a pill and all their worries will magically disappear
Psychiatry and their excessive distribution of numbing medication is an Orwellian means to pacify the populous.

Biologic psychiatrists as a whole are unapologetic in their view that they have found the road to the truth, namely that mental illnesses for the most part are genetic in origin and should be treated with biologic manipulations, i.e., psychoactive medications, electroconvulsive treatment (which has made an astounding comeback), and in some cases psychosurgery. Although they admit a role for environmental and social factors, these are usually relegated to a secondary status. Their unquestioning confidence in their biologic paradigms of mental illness is truly staggering.

Yes, it is. Half of the mental illnesses they talk about existing, overlap several others , they all overlap another mental health issue, so theres no absolutes. The meds can actually trigger worse problems and side effects that healthy people have taken, and ended up killing themselves, or desperately wanting to kill someone else they had never considered such action. These were the ones used as guineas and paid to do it. You can find reports on what these people have to say about these drugs. They are dangerous because the dr cannot tell you how it really reacts to the chemicals in your brain.
I dont think cho was mentally ill at all, I think he was born this way, and in time worshipped his own negative evil thoughts to the point of him killing others and then blaming them for his own evil thoughts and actions.
If we locked up all people that ever had bad thoughts, nobody would be free today. Even his writings were mild compared to horror movies like saw, freddy, etc.....his writings did bring up some social issues like catholic priests molesting boys, a step dad doing it, and the government issues , but who would think someone would take this out on kids that tried to befriend him ? He rejected all forms of attempts at friendship. He never talked to anyone, for YEARS, this antisocial behavior was a sure sign he was thinking something in that head of his, and undoubtedly it wasnt good. This seems to me a simple case of hatred and evil inside of one young man. Mental health patients generally admit they have some issues, and get help for it. He emphatically denied needing help. Maybe he was crazy, cuz usually crazy people dont know they are. Who knows, but I dont think we have to many experts out there who could really tells us, except maybe the mayo clinic dr.s . with a few exceptions I am sure. We do have some good drs out there, that could have helped him, but if he WANTED to do this, I dont see how he could have been stopped. It was well premeditated and planned. To me hes just a murdering evil person, that well deserved the death penalty he gave himself, to bad he didnt do it sooner.

Isn't it when we are down we need someone to talk to? to help us through? Psychologist are just the same. They are there so we can unload whats bugging us and they will act as a sounding board. Only they're expensive to use. If we have friends we can use, that will be better. Someone who can make us feel good.

I think it is a load of crap most of the time. Back when I was a kid, you knew how to act in public because you knew if you didn't, you would get an @ss whipping when you got home, if not right away.
Shrinks want to solve behavior problems with medicines when a lot of times a little fear of repercussion can go a long way.

No it is not.
The quality of providers is varied though. I note you are quoting a "clinical psychologist" - someone who is not a licensed psychiatrist. As in attorneys - those providers who are assigned by a court are not likely at the top of their field.
I do believe however, that the legal system has serous flaws when it comes to the mentally ill. Prisons are full of untreated psychotics.

In some ways, yes. If you listened to the analysis of the killer by FBI and police experts, it was MUCH closer to the mark than the arm chair analysis by the mental health professionals.
