I had a few W2's from places I worked and when I filed the tax return I missed a W2. What should I do?

Ok Correction: I did the calculations correctly etc, I counted the W2 but it just fell out of the stack when I went to mail it. Do I still need an ammended return?

Do not file an amended return, the IRS will send you a letter requesting the missing W2, when you get the letter, make a copy of it and send it with the missing W2. Unfortunatly this will delay the processing of your return and refund, but respond to the letter ASAP when you get it.

You MUST file an amended return as the IRS explained to you. If you do not, in about 12 to 30 months the IRS will send you a CP2000 letter advising you that you "forgot" to report some income on your tax return. They'll assess the additional tax and tack on late payment penalties and interest that accrue from April 15, 2009. By the time that the IRS gets around to notifying you, those penalties and interest will add between 25% and 50% to what you owe. With $1,323 in unreported income there's a good chance that you will owe more tax. There are so many variables that there's no way to say how much that it could be. It could range from $0 to several hundred dollars. Without seeing a copy of your original tax return as filed it's impossible to guess.

You have to file an amended return, showing ALL your income including what you already filed plus the additional amount.

Ammend the return coz IRS will be having a copy and if they don't see those amounts, they will slap you with penalties and interest.

Form 1040X - amend your returns (don't forget the state return)

Amended returns can not be eFiled. They must be done the old fashion way - PAPER
