we are in the process of purchasing a bungalow with the name of Strathyre, any ideas what it means.

Strathyre is the name of a place in Scotland near Callender and Loch Lomond in the Trossachs. See link below.
The name means 'Sheltered valley' in Scots Gaelic.

Can't say any better than Keefer, I drove through Strathyre last weekend.
