i got pregnant straight away with my first pregnancy and gave birth to twins 6 months ago. we are now trying to concieve again. it was quick and out of the blue last time, but we've tried this first month with no luck. will it take longer to concieve this time round? or on average how long does it take to concieve?

I guess it just depends on it you are having intercourse during your fertile period. My husband and I are in great health, I'm 26 and he's 30 and it took us 5 months to conceive with our first. Good luck!

The average healthy couple has an 80% chance of conceiving in a given year, and 30% chance in a given month if you try close to ovulation. Some women can't conceive while they are breastfeeding, so be aware of that factor also if you are.

It took me 4 months for my first and 5 months with my second.

BTW it's better for your body if you wait a year after giving birth, to give your body a chance to replenish the nutrients it lost in the previous pregnancy.

All three of my pregnancies have been conceived in short order, one on my wedding night, second the first month hubby was home after deployment, and the third about 7 weeks (oops) after the second was born. I was told however that it takes an average of 6 months and not to worry until 9-12 months.

Went to my GP today. She said 85% pregnancy in the first year and 95% in the second year. It wasn't clear whether they counted the several months it takes for birth control to leave your system.

I think that it has taken 6 months for me to start ovulating after being on the pill for a year.

Ovulation kits are useful for getting an idea about what your body is doing and when.

Good luck!

When I met with a Dr about this same concern, she told me it takes many couples a year of trying. My bf and I have been trying for a little less then a year now, so anytime now!!! (crossing fingers) After a year they start to look at what could be the issue. Good luck to you!!

About 25% of couples get pg in the first month. 60% get pg within 6 months, 75% get pg within 9 months, and 80% get pg by one year. 90% get pg by 18months. The average each month is you have about a 20% chance in any given cycle to get pg.
