Once looms went into factories then thee wee variety of changes ... from people having to go to work rather than work coming to their homes, to people having to work based on the clock, not based on when the work had to be done or when there was time and energy to do it. Also, it almost put small craftsmen out of business, but the up side for most people was that the cost of cloth and clothing dropped significantly. It did still require people to make clothes out of the cloth, and this increased home based industries, until this too was relegated to the factories.

Also, the power loom brought more women and children into the work place.

By making the skills of handloom weavers irrelevant. This caused immense hardship among this large group of skilled male workers.
