So Guys anyone know anything about these, My child wants one for her birthday and I have been looking around.
There seems to be a Nintendo DS and then a Nintendo DS LITE, I know one is newer and smaller, But are the Games the same?
Do the DS ones fit in the DS Lite machine?
Any info on the thing would be good. thanks

if you are buying it in a store, it's very likely that you won't be able to find a regular DS; Nintendo doesn't make them anymore. the DSLite was an upgrade to the DS
the DSLite is a decent handheld gaming system, with a good library of DS games, and a vast library of GBA (gameboy advance) games that can also play on it
you do not need batteries, it is a lithium ion battery that charges much like a cell phone.
the system has two screens, both of which are used for most DS games, and one of which (there is a choice of which one) will play GBA games.
the bottom screen is a touch screen. while it is actually tougher than many people may tell you, screen protectors are available for people that might get a little frustrated and push a bit too hard.. (it *is* possible to scratch the screen, but requires effort)

The Nintendo DS and DS LITE are essentially the same, they both run the same DS cartridges and you can buy cartridges compatible with the Game boy advance, these will also fit but in a different socket. I would say that they are a good buy, however the games can be expensive new, approx £30 GBP for the newest games, however you will find you can get them secondhand for less, but unless you trust the vendor go to a shop that sells second hand games. If your child has friends that own a DS then some games can be played by linking machines together, this is done wirelessly and will not harm the machine, some games require each player to own a copy of the game whilst others require only one copy. The most information and perhaps a demonstration can be gathered at the shop where you intend to purchase. Although iam not sure whether a DS and DS lite can link together. The DS is cheaper and a little more bulky, while the DS LITE is Slimmer and more expensive. Also look around as some shops do Deals where you might get the console and a game or the console and accessories for a price, these are worth considering and can be value for money.

Actually i'd recommend the nintendo ds lite, i just bought the pink one for my 11 year old sister and it's nice too.. my friends have it and they said that the games are the same. Since it's for a 7 year old, the lite is smaller for their small hands to handle better. Oh and the game new super mario bros is a good game i actually played it and it's fun but there's a great variety for different ages. oh and if you buy it from a game crazy store you get 1 year of 1 free rental per month.

Botht he DS and the DS Lite both play the same games. The Lite is smaller but I've heard reports that it's less sturdy.
Both models will play games for the Nintendo DS and games made for the Game Boy Advance. Neither will play original Game Boy or Gameboy color games.
I highly recommend the DS, it is the best gaming platform I have owned. I have previously written an extensive review fo the system here:

I think that you should buy the DS lite, Its easier to bring around since it smaller and lighter. The screen is brighter so its better to see. All the regular DS games can go into the DS lite

There is no difference. The lite just looks better. It's a pretty good system, especially since it has Nintendogs. But she may not like it a lot because it's like taking care of a real dog. And you don't do much except clean up after him. The game is cool, but it may get boring after a while. There aren't that many games also. I think it's worth it. Go for it.

The games are the same and can be used in both, the DS light is smaller and has a bigger pen thingie, theyre all really nice and very good fun though and can connect to other people with DS- a bit like bluetooth.

I am an electronics vendor and yes, the games are identical for the two different DS models. As a word of advice, buy a LITE... The screen is brighter and easier to see. Your childs eyes will thank you.
