They want the US out and they want their sect, shiite or sunni, in control. It's all about money and power.

The insurgents have been killing each other for thousands of years. When Saddam was in control he sided with the Sunni and left the Shite to their own devices. Both Sunni And Shiite hated the Kurds. So they tried to annihilate them. The Kurds were the only thing they agreed on.Now with America's backing the Shiite have taken power. They don't want to give it up and the Sunni want it back. They are all religious fanatics. All except the Kurds who have a problem now in their part of Iraq trying to feed and house all the non radical Shiite and Sunni who have fled there to escape the chaos.Personally I think if we withdrew and let the Kurds help out in Iraq like they have offered Iraq would stabilize. But for some unknown reason Bush doesn't want them to and has ordered them to stay away. Go figure.

The insurgents want to take over the government and create an Islamic state so that women will be oppressed and Sharia Law will rule the lives of all people, Muslim and non Muslim

Terrorists want to create fear in the people.

The Militia wants to destroy all Sunnis and extract revenge for the 35 years that the Sunni minority ruled over the Shiite majority.

When it's all said and done, it's about nothing more than power and revenge.

The terrorist agenda remains the same: set up another theocracy. And back in 2002 and 2003 most of the political analysts were predicting that Iraq would become a theocracy.

There is a difference between terrorists and insurgents.

The insurgents want us out of their country. The terrorists want to keep us there so they can keep killing our soldiers.
