It is part of the First Amendment right of the public to know. If it were my son that was killed in the massacre, I would want answers and I would want to know why, no matter how sick and twisted the person's reasons were so I could try to understand it and do anything I could at any level to prevent it from happening to another person's child. You have to know the cause of something before you begin to find a cure or vaccination of a problem.
I certainly pray that there won't be any "copy-cat" killers, but quashing the story in the media would not necessarily eliminate them anyway.

To answer the question, "Why did he do this?"
If all they did was report on the content of the package, you people would be screaming that they made it up because they weren't willing to prove it.
The country wants to understand why this happened. Human beings want to know what makes someone do something like this. Don't blame the news for releasing it; blame Cho for doing it.

i think that it was wrong.it gives him the (killer)the last say about the people he killed.he went to his grave having the last words on earth.his parents and family must feel really sad.
