Why does it seem that the death of Anna Nicole Smith takes precedence over the deaths of hundreds of soldiers valiantly fighting against terrorism by roadside bombs?

In thinking about this, everytime a celebrity blinks, the world stops to take notice ... should we not be paying attention to far more important issues? Are we looking for a distraction from all the painful death and destruction or do we simply not care? Do we need to reexamine our priorities? And what does this say about our society?

It doesn't. Don't be stupid, Iraq is still on the news everyday.

It says the media isn't doing the job they should be doing. Most don't care about celebrities.
I bet that if American soldiers coming home in coffins was allowed to be broadcast, more people would understand the losses we are suffering. The current media is hiding what's really going on over there.
I'm old enough to remember Viet Nam and one of my strongest memories is watching flag draped coffins being moved. It gave us all a sense of humanity, which is lacking in this war.

I have no idea. Not to sound horrible or disrespectful but I couldn't care less about Anna Nicole Smith...

I would much rather hear about the American and British troops.

(PS- Catchy headline lol)

i AGREE WITH YOU WHOLE HEARTEDLY--but this type of news sells a lot of papers, etc., and yes there are those who try to distract the public from real issues. LIKE THE WAR IN IRAQ. They don't know we are smarter than that. Has anyone ever wondered why we don't see our troops coming home via covered caskets. Think about it.

The same reasons people can tell you every contestants name on American Idol yet can't name their Senator or Congressman. Hell, half can't even tell you who the Vice President is, or name more than 1 member of the cabinet. The dumbification of Americans has been going on for years.
