I'm not talking about incoherent mumbling, I mean the cases when people who only speak one language have supposedly said clear foreign words in clear sentences while asleep.

Anyone ever heard of this? What's your opinions and/or theories on it? Is it a supernatural type thing or can it be scientifically explained?

Thanks.

I've done this in French, Russian and German before. My dreams tend to involve what I'm studying, researching or writing at the time. I never thought of it as supernatural, for me, at any rate. You know that humans use only about 10% of their brains. What about the other 90%? During the day, there is so much going on all around you which you're not even aware of. But your subconscience stores it. When we dream, some of that subconscious lets loose an d mingles with our dream world. Think of all the programs/movies you've seen which have other languages with subtitles included and if you live in a large city, you hear all sorts of languages spoken. These enter your subconscious and may exhibit themselves in dreams/talking out loud in your sleep. Sorry for the long answer or if I've been redundant.

Perhaps the person was speaking a language they knew from a previous life.

Though if the words sounded like the Taco Bell menu, then they were probably just hungry.

I could be a past life thing.
It could also be that we pick up amazing amounts of information in the back ground without knowing about it, and could concievably learn a language subconsciously, although we aren't consciously aware of it...

well my boyfriend has been doing that a lot lately...
the strange thing about it is that i can understand what hes saying...even though neither of us knows what language hes speaking in. we are both certain that we knew each other in past lives...so your not the only one then.
he's former military...he may have picked up on another language in his travels or it is more likely a language that we both knew in a past life. hope that helps you.
