A few days ago my oil light came on. I pulled over and checked the oil, all was fine, and the light has been off since. My maintenence light has changed from green to yellow now. I have my oil changed every 3000 and it is not even half way to that. Does this light come on every so many miles on the odometer and a mechanic needs to turn back. Or do I need to really have some work done? It is running fine. 1993 Acura Vigor, 126k, have had almost 3 years and only 13K of those are mine, changed timing belt on time etc.....Thanks

the maintenance light is tied into the spedometer and should be reset when you change the oil and filter. depending on the vehicle that light may change from green to yellow to red anywhere between 3750 miles and 7500 miles.

the yellow light means that you are coming up on the next service based on the elapsed mileage from the last time the reminder was reset. if it wasn't reset when you last had you oil and filter changed, it won't be an accurate predictor for your next service.

i can't say for sure why your oil light came on; many independent repair centers put a heavier weight oil in vehicles as milege increases and that could have an effect on the flow when cold. you should go with the 5w20 oil recommended when the car was new.

to reset your light, you use the ignition key and push in on the vertical slot on the gauge cluster to the left or right of the light. the slot looks to be just big enough to allow the tip of the key into it. Insert the key and hold the key pressed in until the light returns to green. The reminder will then be reset for the next maintenance interval. On that car, you should change the oil and filter every 3,750 miles.

hope that answers your question

Been awhile since I've sat in a Vigor, but all older Honda's and Acura's use to be the same way, so guessing yours will be too.

Normally you have a light for oil and for maintenance. You should have a small dent in front of the light or around the gages where the car key can be inserted to reset these lights. The oil one should go green then yellow then red during normal oil change cycles. The maintenance light should do the same, since you mentioned 127k and the light has now changed to yellow, it is saying your 130k check up is coming due. And important check up.

The oil light just coming on and you pulling over, I am guessing you mean the normal red dummy light came on for this situation? Or did the green/yellow/red light come on? If the green/yellow one did, not sure how it did, cause those do just work off the odometer, just a counter. Now the red dummy light is a true light from sensors warning something is wrong.

Best is just go ahead and schedule your 130k service, if anything is wrong, they'll find it at this time. I would check your head gasket, that is the 5 cylinder right? My memory wants to say the back side of the gasket, next to firewall, use to blow out on these, might be what is giving you that oil light/dummy light.

the maintenance light change from green to yellow near the recommend oil cycles. i think that is about 3000 miles or earlier. but you have to reset it every time you change the oil. if not it just keep on going and change to red.

the maintance light come on every 7500 miles. so if you have the oil change before this miles, you need to reset the light. doing this by holding down odometer knob with one hand and your other hand, turn the key on for 20 seconds. the maintance light will blink and then turn off. now the light is reset
