Al Gore had a great military career but didn't even mention it. If he did I think the public would have been more outraged at the theft of votes and the Electoral College would have thought twice before making their decision.

On the whole Gore invented the Internet subject that is not completely fiction. He was involved in the evolution of Arpanet which was the precursor to the Internet.

Yes! It worked! I knew that many Americans had no real sense of value in our military, but I just needed to see it for myself. You would rather have a greedy corporate blowhard run the country into the ground than do something that counts. You place hierarchy on military service as if it isn't noble as if everyone who is deployed isn't potentially a target. Some of the other Neo-Cons in Yahoo didn't answer and they did so because they are obviously smarter than the rest of you Neo-Cons. You've been outed.

Wow, I didn't even know that Al Gore had even been in the military. I don't think that he would have been elected as president if he mentioned his great military career. I bet that most Americans wish that he was president right now, because it seems he is very knowledgeable about global warming.

I think that would have been counterproductive for gore. 'great military career' is overstating the case somewhat: he was a military journalist in vietnam for about six months. Whilst this is certainly more than Bush could claim, it's not really strong enough service record to play on in it during elections, in my opinion.

Kerry had a solid service record, and that was destroyed in the public view by the 'swift boat veterans for truth' smear campaign. I don't think Gore would have fared any better.

The public (from the news coverage at the time -i'm not American) largely bought in to the constantly replayed media message 'you lost, get over it. Stop being a sore loser', which was trumpeted by Republican news outlets. Once a message like this is declared in public over-and-over again, it starts to sink in. It was this premature - and shockingly arrogant - declaration of victory and portrayal of Gore as a sore loser and, ironically enough, harming democracy that destroyed the credibility of the 2000 win.

No amount of service would have saved him. It didn't save Kerry, it didn't help McCain during the 'black baby' push-poll scandal.

I get so tired of misrepresentations like the first answerer who still believes the falsehood that Al Gore claimed he invented the internet. Check out Urban Legends at Snopes. com ( http://www.snopes.com/quotes/internet.asp )

Al Gore CORRECTLY said that he chaired the Senate committee that fostered the development of the internet as we know it today.

Instead of blindly believing every claim made by the unconscionable 'swift-boat' type mudslingers, maybe the people who cast votes and make claims on the internet should do a little research and get their facts straight.

The fact is, Al Gore, John Kerry, John McCain *ALL SERVED,* some with distinction. Which is more than either Shrub or Chaney can say. Remember, Shrub was busy partying and chasing bush, and Chaney, by his own words, "had other priorities." (Maybe dove hunting?)

Another person with faulty info, great military career, yes he was in the miltary as a supply puke. And this insane comment of yours on theft of votes and electoral college. Big Al would have lost anyway because alot of us knew he was a bit tweaked.

I'm not sure Al Gore had a great military career. He served and I respect that but he was a journalist who had a short tour.
