I think that on public TV and radio, the freedom of speech is subjective. I think that people can get away with some stuff, while others are punished. It's just however the "powers that be" feel that day. Imus was fired over that comment, but others have gotten by with worse.

Imus should have never been fired! All these right wing talk show hosts like O'Reilly and Hannity, and nutcases like Ann Coulter can get away with name calling and here is this 65 yo man who said it after being goaded on by one of his cohorts and he gets fried from MSNBC AND the radio. Too much- we get offended too easily and the girls at Rutgers accepted his apology-why can't we? I don't see him as a hateful man-he's not wearing hoods or burning crosses or even advertising neo-nazi **** online which as a half jewish man offends me. I am against censorship and think that people should get over it. As Joy Behar said on "The View," "howthe heck is this going to fight racism by firing Imus who's not a racist and just made an off handed remark without thinking of the consequences and apologized." I don't think this is the end of freedome of speech. There are some limits to our freedoms. Imus does have freedom of speech, however his employer has the freedom to choose who they want on the air.

I believe it is. Did you know that the same people who got Imus fired are the same people who went after the Duke players and publicly called them rapists and racist but they have yet to apologize to them now that they have been cleared.
