It's your place and you have the right to require shoe removal. Stick to your guns. I they don't respect you they can please leave or clean their shoes in the kitchen, then they can put them back on.

i lived like that, with beige rugs and flooding and mud. Some people had promblem taking shoes on and off. Like my best freind because of medical condition., My hubby has a thing where he has shoes on all day he don't take them off until bed, because his feet will get dirty or germ cause you don't know if somebody else has foot rot....lol so i started to run around with a can of wool lite or resolve carpenter cleaner. My kids had a pen that exploded on my carpet and resolve got it out. Try not to get too edgey cause some people are weird about there feet. My hubby would say he just won't visit ya if thats the way you feel. Try to put a big enough mat rug there so most dirt goes on it then your rug. run your vacuum everyday and a can good carpet spot cleaner.

I can see both sides of this, because there may be a good reason for her to have not removed her shoes (I'm thinking about foot odor here - holey socks, dirty socks, etc.) HOWEVER, if she didn't want to remove them then just take care of business at the entryway -- I have a big throw rug there for them to stand on --- kind of like, fine, but you gotta stand on this rug.

If they were coming to visit, then taking off shoes should be a cozy, friendly thing to do. I don't think she has a right to get mad. I don't think you have a right to get mad either if she wouldn't take them off, BUT then she shouldn't be allowed in the house.

I think having a sign is the best way to go, I've seen several at my friends' and acquaintances houses. I really like the shoe rack idea too, I may go buy one.

It's your House! I suggest if you don't want to say it , To post a sign on the entrance door "Please , Take off your Shoes" this would be a good focal reminder without having to be personal and say it, If that still doesn't do the trick I suggest placing clean flipflops or shoecovers (such as doctors wear) by the door entrance and have them put those on after they take their shoes off.
No, your not being mean! I do this same ritual with my family each time we put new carpeting down for at least the first month. Stay Firm! Good Luck!

A lot of the written word , I believe is laid out in a form so know matter who reads it they come out with the look like they`ve been on a vast journey. Again you`ll find contradictions which in turn promote disbelief . Lust and love is found all over portrayed as both good and evil so that leaves one to make decisions on there own. Such the case who is right to judge either right or wrong but oneself . In fulfilling ones intimate Desiree's the lines drawn are only those drawn by man and man alone and not the will of god. Understand when you don`t feel good enough anymore this is you judging yourself not god. God would not have given such beautiful anatomy if he did not intend us to use them anything else is mire talk.

I HATE when people want me to take off my shoes in their home. But I respect their wishes and do it. It's your home. You have the right to have rules. I have seen people with signs on their front doors that say "Please Remove Your Shoes" some are cute and some are kinda funny...maybe you can get something like that.

Here are some I saw on eBay

haha...this is fine alot of people do this.
Ask them nicely and put a shoe rack near the entrance so they know. Im sure once they see a couple of your shoes there they will know what to do.

Maybe you could hang up a cute sign "take um off or help me clean" hehe

Well its your place..just say..Take shoes off or your not coming in. Put a nice basket by the front door for storage of the shoes.

Put a chair by your door to sit on so people can easily remove and replace their shoes, and a tray or shelf to put guest's shoes on. Add a little basket with short socks for them to put on their feet, if they don't want to walk around barefooted.
And another basket for "used socks", that you launder frequently. Make sure you are not wearing shoes in side, and make sure your floors are quite clean. Martha Stewart doesn't let people wear shoes in her house, either. She does supply people with socks to wear when they are there.

I have the same rule at my house. It is not rude to ask someone to remove thier shoes. If they dont like it, they dont have to come over. Period.
