Fear.

I find Liviu Librescu amazing - 76 years old, a holocaust survivor who'd already seen the worst humanity has to offer - held the door to his classroom so his students could escape through the windows.

No matter what horrors humanity produces - it also produces pearls. He was shot five times in the chest - but his students survived.

Think of how many people didn't die because of one man.

Why blame the kids for this? The first thought would likely be shock at this occuring followed by self preservation-they had seconds, not minutes and he was shooting constantly. These kids did the best they could and the ones who survived need our love and support as they will have enough to deal with.

From an outside perspective it seems the easy thing to do, right? Why doesn't that battered wife just leave her husband? Why does that 6yr old girl put up with that bully at school? How come that guy doesn't sell that clunker car?

Aside from all that has already been said here...don't worry about the sawdust in someone else's eye, until you remove the branch from your own.

People have been made to feel guilty about anger via MH/Gov when it's clear we do not belong behaving like robots. I am angered these young adults have been hoodwinked into feeling guilty about protecting themselves. Anger is also an instant frustration that tells us we are in trouble and need to do something immediately or we will die. Anger helps us protect ourselves from those who clearly have nothing to do with our right to stay alive. Don't take down those who make the rules in our best interest...take down those who break the rules that allow us to live.

Jesus pushed over a table when he knew something unbiblical was clearly going on.

When someone is shooting a gun your first instinct is to get away. I doubt any of the students were wearing bullet proof vests. Perhaps you should have been there to save the day.

The clue is in the question. He was shooting, and killing people. When someone does that, you don't draw attention to yourself. Unless, of course, you're fond of hospital food or coffins.

It wasn't an action movie. That's not the first thing you think about when somebody starts shooting.

We all like to think we'd do something different, but I suspect that in a situation like that you hope you are one of the many to not be shot and your natural reaction is to cower. Sad but true.
