Because the real weapons of mass destruction are available in any sporting goods store nationwide.
Handguns kill more people in a month than terror attacks do in a year. Homeland security should include keeping deadly weapons out of the hands of a public that is increasingly violent.

First the police did what they could with what they had. The campus is a large area with many buildings to try to secure a suspect that could be a student that know his way around campus. Anti-terrorism is more focused on group efforts than individual persons. There is a thing called HIPPA and various health privacy laws that are in place and actaully can do a good thing. We do need more gun control despite all the uproar over this whole situation. Other countires have tighter laws on guns and have far less violence against its citizens. People have to realize yes you can have weapons but there needs to be a limit on how many and what type.

dallas has an excellent point.
Also, we do not live in (nor desire to) a police state. It is very difficult in our society to stop a lone gunman who is prepared to die from going on a killing spree anywhere.
I was in DC a few years ago on a July 4th right down below the Washington Monument just at dusk with my children waiting for the fireworks over the reflecting pool to begin, when I heard an early bang that sounded like a gunshot very near. There was a movement in the crowd like a wave and then there were mounted police cutting into the crowd from several directions. They arrested a man not 50 feet away who had just shot someone else. It can happen anywhere.

This was a random act committed by a person with severe mental problems. The police aren't mind readers.Lots of signs were there to the school and no one did anything. You cant blame this on anyone but the shooter. The person with the weapon is responsible not the weapon or anyone else. When someone wants to kill another there can always be a weapon found. He could have set fire to a dorm or blown it up with a bomb. There is always a way to kill if you want to bad enough. Stop blaming the gun and blame the shooter. Is it the cars fault if a drunk driver hits and kill someone ? No its the person driving the car .Should we ban ALL cars ? Handguns need to be kept out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill,not law abiding citizens.

We need to look at the reasons that anyone is allowed to buy guns. I'm not anti gun, I realize that people kill people and not guns. Typically handguns are not used for hunting, yes they can be, but if handguns were a lot harder to get hunters would use other guns. Rifles would be more difficult to conceal for terrorists on campuses and other public places. I'm all for metal detectors in schools, it seems to be becoming a necessity. If he was determined to kill himself in all of this it makes it more difficult to stop him. Moe time should be spent on ways to prevent situations, granted but it's always that old saying,"hindsight is 20/20" It's a pretty sad comentary on our country when schools have become a target by our own citizens on so many occassions.

united statesa. isn't a "disarmed" united states of america as of yet. it may be fairly uncomplicated for all and sundry to circulate on a killing spree. The shooter develop into M.I.A. while the college arrived on the scene. The crime scene develop into the whole campus and how many hundreds of scholars??? Do you have faith you may have predicted this occasion and/or dealt with it greater useful? Monday morning quarterback?

I couldn't tell you, I don't know any real circumstances of the case because I find all of it too depressing... It's such a tragedy. I just can't believe that kid could snap like that and do something this horrible. I don't think anyone could have prepared for something like this.
Still, how could so many lives be taken like that? I don't know...

I see so there should have been 10,000 armed police there immediately after the first shooting combing the acres of a University campus looking for............what?
They had no description or motive.
I, along with thousands of campus security forces, would just love to hear how YOU would have handled that situation.
Put up or shut up!!!

Good question! We have to become more proactive in our own lives. Stop thinking that the police are going to save us. They are not. They don't prevent crime they investigate after it happens. I am not preaching vigilantism just more self reliance folks.

Because antiterrorism funding is applied outside of the US. Our President had let any kind of Domestic Policy slip through his fingers. And they other guy is right, its not the police's fault. The one other chance it could have been prevented is if guns weren't accessible.
