Yes. There's no question that what the shooter did was evil and cruel and wrong. But as for feeling sorry for him? Definitely, you have to feel sorry for him. It was actually 33 victims and not just 32 at VT (Virginia Tech, not Vermont, Sarge). It includes the shooter who brought everyone down with him but it's perhaps the shooter, Cho Seung-Hui, who was the biggest victim of all.
We as people have to learn how to forgive and that hatred (even hatred towards those who do wrong) only encourages more hatred and the cycle never ends. Forgiveness doesn't have to happen overnight. It may come over months or years but it's the only way we'll truly be able to have closure and be able to move on.
I think that initially the survivors and those of us that are hearing about the shooting incident will be angry.
Some of that anger will never truly go away. In the end, though, I think that over time the anger should be replaced by forgiveness and agreement that what the gunman needed all along was help.

I'm sorry for the loss of all the lives there, it was a terrible thing. I'm sorry that the killer felt that his only way out was to kill himself and take as many with him as he could. I'm sorry that liberals and conservatives both are using this as a political platform. I'm sorry for all the people who have to deal with the loss of loved ones.
And I'm sorry for all the people who feel that the shooter got what he deserved because its those same feelings of hate and anger and justification that caused this in the first place.

I feel sorry for his family. They are going through some pain. U know they are embarrassed. For the gun man I don't feel sorry for him because he was a sick individual, he knew what he was doing or he wouldn't have made video and sent it to NBC. My heart goes out to all the families and friends of the victims. Their life was soooo short its just not fair.

Sarge-VT is one of the way's we Hokies refer to our school.
And how can anyone feel sorry for him? He was in pain-or he was suffering from a mental illness-either way, he pulled it together to plan this attack and convince the doctor's at a mental health facility he was not a threat to himself or anyone and that he was not paranoid. If he could pull it together to do that he knew he was doing something wrong and didn't care. I don't waste my time feeling bad for him. His manifesto just made me feel more disgusted with him. He wasn't backed into a corner and made to do this, he willing went to this level for his own attempt at glory. How anyone can pity him, feel bad for his pain, is just beyond me.

The only thing I am sorry about is that he didn't live long enough to have to come face-to-face with the friends and families of the people he murdered, and see what *real* pain is...

Hell no. His pain is nothing compared to the victims and their friends and families. Cho was pathetic little pussy who acted out like a spoiled brat and then took his own life to avoid repercussions.

Yea, I do feel sorry that not enough was done to keep him off the streets and away from the public. I wish someone could have helped him correct his delusions.

Someone needs to analyze this so it doesn't happen again. The opinions in those first two comments are the same things that helped spark this tragedy in the first place. Sheer insensitivity.

i feel really bad for him. and at the same time i dont he was offered help and didnt take it. when he didnt take the help he should have been put out of school since he was listed as a danger to himself and possibly others. i feel for his family. and his sister who is at princeton. she may be kicked out of school for fear of her doing the same.its scary what happened but we must continue our lives. his parents came here in search of a better life. they sacrificed everything for their kids and this is what he does to repay them. he doesnt seem to grateful to me
