I love Pablo Neruda.
How I understand it: it's about love, and how love is a shelter for him, to hide from the wind (wind is methaphore for something inevitable, agressive).
Great poem.

Anytime an author talks about an island they are mentioning aloness, which is not the same as being lonely. He is addressing the idea or the concept of being alone, yet the wind is holding onto the pleasure of the moment. One can be alone and truly adore the moment in time, even though that moment, the wind, can bring everything from rain to storm to destruction to the cooling breeze. It's a metaphor for all of life.
