I'm not black, but my husband is. And he agrees with me 100% on this issue, so I'll speak for the both of us...

I'm probably not going to make very many people happy when I say this, but here goes...

We don't agree with affirmative action at all. My husband and I feel that, in order to end racial and gender discrimination, there has to be NO consideration given to race or gender. To continue making an issue of race/gender isn't balancing the scales, but rather the scales continue to shift back and forth tipping one way or the other. Supporters of affirmative action claim that it's a necessity that guarantees equal opportunity, but it is not and does not. The very sentence, "We are an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer," is a contradiction. There cannot be equal opportunity for everyone as long as consideration is given to race/gender. The way to combat discrimination is to improve the law. Eliminating "fire-at-will" would greatly reduce the number of people who are terminated based on race/gender, as would eliminating laws that permit employers from disclosing the reason for termination. In every state, employers should be required to disclose your work records to you upon request. Doing this would mean that everyone would be capable of looking for discrepancies. For example... Were you terminated for poor work preformance? Yes? Well, then, do your records include any poor evaluations given prior to your termination? If not then, depending upon other factors, you may have a case.

Changes have to be made that completely disregard race/gender, otherwise we will continue down the slipery slope of discrimination.

i think that affirmative action is a failure through fact it does no longer handle the underlying hatred. specific a business corporation or college might have a minority(and female) quota to fill, yet as quickly as the quota is crammed, no person else would be allowed in. and whether you get in, they business corporation might desire to hearth you any time they choose for to achieve this. In a fashion, affirmative action isn't working through fact there are nonetheless extreme poverty expenses between African-individuals and a brilliant form of African-individuals nonetheless face pastime discrimination(even those with college levels). we'd desire to start with the midsection. the muse concern is what's in absolutely everyone's hearts. whilst an corporation would not choose for to hire a black guy or woman, he won't many times say it out loud, yet he will act on it. It he has a quota to fill, then he will might desire to. What we choose for is make stronger the regulations on discrimination and reform affirmative action and make it approximately high quality, no longer quantity.

I may not make too many friends after saying this: but, Affirmative Action is set as a middle man, a liason if you will. It is not there to make sure unqualifying blacks get the job/or get accepted to school. It is there to make sure that if a black person has acceptable grades, a good background, etc. he/she would get accepted, and treated no differently because of skin color. There are some whites who would say, what about disabled? What about us? I say Affirmative goes for the disabled too, but white people, they are still on top,and I haven't heard them complaining of their huge homes, and Harvard school educated parents yet. We need Affirmative action, and it needs to stay.

Thanks for the question.

its an ok policy, because its a lot of discrimination in this society and if you get a job from affirmative action, you still have to carry your weight once you start your new job.

Until the people who do that hiring stop saying that "they had to hire someone because of the law" I will love it.... because if that is the sole reason for them hiring a black person or other minority then you know damn well they are not going to hire you "if they don't have to" no matter the persons qualifications

In 1973- AT&T was forced to hire blacks(a court ordered consent decree). Now the worlds largest corporation is just about out of bussiness.

Why wouldn't they like it? Blacks have been getting things they don't deserve for the last 50 years. That is why the majority of them have lost their work ethic and ability to be productive.
