I am reading Michael Crichton's Next and was wondering if there really are.

Yes they do, but it's called researchers. It is their job to find what no one else has found, to seek into the mysteries of science and to find what can help and cure, and also to find out what others are doing in the field and how others may have stolen from you or your company. Yes, but they are more brains and less muscle than bail-jumper bounty hunters.

I'm not sure if it's still true, but in Florida you could use your bail bond license to collect license plates from uninsured motorists and turn them in for a $ 50.00 state bounty. That was in 1998. It may still be true. You have to verify though.
