I mean... I assume they only do it because the mirrors are in the room and they all see it as an oppurtunity to apply chemical substances to their faces to make them seem more innocent than they actually are... and furthermore because the actual toilets themselves are in little booths separate from the place where they apply their makeup... as though in another world.

On the other hand... male public lavatories tend to have the urinals lined up in the open, so the actual process of using them is quite obvious and in the open... hence hardly appropriate for socialising.

Would my guess be totally off?

... You converse while actually doing the business? o_0;

... I suppose if you can't see each other then it might be easier... but I'd find that a little disturbing... personally.
The whole act of ... well... toileting (in either form) seems like a period of vulnerability and weakness to me.... Not something you'd want to share with anyone. I guess I just don't relate at all.

But then again, I guess females don't care so much about seeming vulnerable or weak as males do.

"Vulnerable" and "weak" because you have to piss or s.hit? wtf. You make it sound like not all human beings have to piss and s.hit in order to keep their digestive systems functioning properly.

Sorry. Look around once in a while.

Not totally off, but not looking deep enough. The idea of being in another world offers an almost confessional type environment for women to share thier nightly excursions. We don't really care who the other women are, because we know that they are women, and most likely have many similarities in thier convictions and experiences as our own. We know they are there to offer advice, even when it is unwarranted. It is when we do step out of these false confessionals that we see the faces of those we have shared ourselves with, and instantly see a flash of understanding and fear across both womens faces, like a code of silence bonding them together.

Your guess it so totally far off. Women will socialize with strangers in the next stall, even if they haven't seen their face and have no clue who they are.

Edit: I have had women compliment me on my shoes while I was peeing, and we wound up in long conversations about where to buy shoes and which ones were comfortable and which ones were cute, but a pain to wear.

Also, this doesn't happen ALL the time, but yeah, it's not taboo to talk to each other, like it is in men's toilets.

After going to India, the place that they had squatty potties on the floor and in nicer places, sit down bogs with places to place your ft on the seat, i desperate i could stand on the bathroom seat and squat. I continuously positioned tp down first via fact my shoes are going on the seat, yet i think of this is much less annoying than soaring. heavily, in India the bogs have been designed so which you will desire to the two sit down or stand on the seat (a minimum of those in the airport).

*i* don't. i don't go to the restroom with groups, either. but some people do. also, the only time i've worn make up was for a movie.

as an aside, i went in to use the men's room once because the women's was on the other side of the building. i've never heard so many disgusting noises at once in my life....

I never actually go to the restroom specifically to socialize, but I'll talk with my friends while on the john. I don't really see the big deal. Once my friend and I held hands underneath the stalls while we were peeing because we thought it was funny.

No. Women do not usually converse while on the toilet. In fact, no women I know do not even "go to the public lavatories to socialize."

Until men start wearing make up, I never will. Unless we go to a decent country that is, where men give a f*ck about their face.

If, by socialising, you mean communicating with fart noises then my answer is... yes, I socialise in restrooms all the time!

Hahaha just kidding...

Maybe. But don't tell anyone because it's not very ladylike.

Yes. We definitely talk to each other whilst doing our business. Unless it's #2 and then we act like we're invisible.

I think they socialize in line and at the mirror while they are making sure they look just right. They also say things to each other that they won't say in front of the guys. It's just one of those things women do to bond.
