Oh by the way, anyone reading Alex L's answer, AMD of course purchased ATI last year, hence the ATI/AMD in the question.

yes, nvidia and ati will always be making new technology compatible with ther latest version of direct x. AMD makes procesors exclusivley, so no to that one.

Nvidia>ATI, and nvidia already has their 8800 out, and that is dx10 compatible.

I believe the crossfire might also be.
