Welcome aboard Vic!!! It's great to see you here and hope you'll stick around for a long time!
You must be a bit computer savvy already if you knew how to get an account, find this section on Q&A (I didn't find it until last month), and you've already asked a question. Next you need to start sharing some of your knowledge with the rest of us by answering some of the questions in the areas that interest you, i.e. like here it's elections but there are plenty more outside of the political realm.
Thanks for joining up and not being afraid to take on something new! I think it's great!!

Hey, Vic. Finally, someone who is older than I! Welcome aboard and keep on sailing. You are doing fine! I answer in areas where I have some expertise like pets, engineering, physics and military or areas in which I have interest like politics. Sometimes when I click the 'answer' banner I just take a shot at the first question displayed and then move on. To contribute I also try to vote on about 10 questions a day. If I had more time I'd do more.

It's easy, especially on the Politics boards. If you consider yourself a liberal, find questions from conservatives and call them idiots and label them with appropriate things like "repuglikkkan" or "neo-conazi". If you're a conservative, do the same to liberals using the terms "libtard" or "lieberal".
You're not allowed to be objective or logical on the Politics board. Only partisan flaming and epithets are permitted.

well you're halfway there, any answer given to your question
should appear as a message to your E-Mail adress.
And it will say take me to yahoo answers, click it and
you're back.
I will add you to my list of contacts and that should also
appear as an E-Mail.
If you click that one a screen should appear giving you
the option to E-Mail me back if you have any more
questions.
I live in Mainland Europe though, it may take a while before
I can respond because of different Time Zones.
Good Luck !.

if you look on the left side of this screen there are different categories for you to choose one. i recommend picking one area that you are familiar with. then on the center of the screen will appear questions by fellow participants. find one that you can answer and click on the question itself. hit the "Answer this Question" button and put in your input. keep in mind that you are on level one and will be limited in how many to answer and ask. its fun to do, good luck

what's your question?
it seems you are getting the hang of it, because you created an account and posted a question. the hard part is over. now simply browse around and participate in the Q & A.
you will catch on.

*if you find a question that is interesting to you, just click on it, answer, (spell check if you want), then you go down to preview, and submit. (from preview you can modify your answer).
*if you are looking for solutions to something, you can search for your question at the top of the screen
Good Luck!
