(2a+1)(2a+1) = 4a^2 + 4a +1

mutiply term 1 times term 3.

multiply 1 times 4, and 2 time 3 and add them.

a²+2a+1 = (a+1)². Use the FOIL rule
on (a+1)(a+1) to see this.

a^2 + 2a + 1

(a + 1) (a + 1)
If this equation is = 0
Then a = -1
otherwise I've just factorised it.

a^2 + 2a + 1
{FACTORIZE}
(a + 1) (a + 1)

If it is an equation equal to 0
(a+1)(a+1)=0
a+1=0
a = -1

what we used to answer the equation is the rule of the perfect squared trinomial.
