I was just wondering what others experiences are with stretchmarks? Did you get them in your first pregnancy or not? Thanks x

CONGRATULATIONS! okay here is what my suggestion is i am 18 weeks along with my first and i did research and so did my mom. Stretch marks can be somewhat prevented! i am not sure how old you are but the older we get we loose the elasticity in our skin which will not help the stretch mark situation. At 18 weeks you would not believe how big i have gotten Im a small person 5 3 and weighed 127 lbs prior to pregnancy. so since the begging i use coco butter over my entire body! once a day and i make this oil for when i get out of the shower it it baby oil with aloe and vitamin e but then i also buy vitamin e oil which you can get at the pharmacy usually in the vitamin section( not cheap!) but what i do is split a bottle of vitamin between 2 bottles of it. So mix the two oils and apply it daily best after a shower! It will also make you skin sooo soft you will be thrilled! If you cannot find the vitamin e oil or it way too expensive for you you can also buy the vitamin e capsules and break them open using a needle poke a whole int hem and put them in the bottle of baby oil u will need to use at least 15-20 large capsules if you do it that way but you can a big bottle of those with 500 capsules in it for like $17.00 for the oil i pay 11 for a 2 oz bottle. Also taking capsule everyday helps too. Many blessing and good luck. Just an fyi most of the women here are a great resource of information for questions or situations best of luck hun!

Getting stretchmarks is a hereditary thing. The marks come from tears in the dermal layer of your skin, and it depends on how stretchy your skin is--which comes from your parents.

You can get them in any pregnancy or even from gaining weight too quickly.

Does your mom have stretchmarks? If she doesn't, then you may not get them either.

People use cocoa butter to try to prevent them, but there is no evidence that this really works. Anything is worth a shot though. Make sure you take your vitamins, that should help to prevent.

I have 2 children, and I did not get stretchmarks with either of them. I thought for sure I would, since I'm in my late 30's and gained a lot of weight with the first one. Of course, my mom never got stretch marks either, so genetics played a part.

My niece just had her first baby, and she had terrible stretch marks. I don't know if they've gone away yet or not.

Congratulations, and best wishes!

Stretchmarks are not a pregnancy thing they're a skin thing. Some people are prone to them, some are not. I gained almost 40 lbs with my son and I don't have a single stretchmark. My bff gained 20 lbs and she's covered in em. No way to tell till you get there unless you know you are prone to them...

I did! Oh boy, did I! LOL

However, I was 117 pounds before I got pregnant, and I was over 180 pounds when I gave birth. Let me tell you - no matter how much lotion you slather on, if you gain that much weight, you WILL get stretch marks.

Watch your eating habits. Continue to exercise. Use lots of lotion. You should have many fewer than I did!

Yes, I did because my skin had never stretched that far before. You're probably most likely to get them with your first pregnancy. Unless, you gain no weight and your stomach doesn't stretch at all and you stay lathered up in lotion non stop. I mean, your stomach will stretch to accomodate the baby. It's really no big deal. Almost everyone has them, even people who haven't had babies!

It depends on how old you are. I was told by my doc. that having a child before the age of 21 will leave stretch marks, he said that reproductive hormones mature by the age of 21. l had my child when I was 26 and I don't have any stretch marks at all. cocoa butter (pure) will help prevent them, so I've been told. God Bless You and congratulations!!

I didn't, and I think that was because of genetics. My mother and grandmother also did not get stretch marks. I also kept my belly nice and hydrated. I'm not sure this helped or not, but rubbing a lot of lotion on it helped with the itching so I did not scratch.
