I live next door to a half way house which is owned by the cyrenians and for the last 6 years i have had to put up with abuse from yhem music all through the night them threatening to rob my house and when i ring the cyrenians they dont do nothing about it. It has made me and my daughter very ill and i wanted to know if there is any legal action i can take against them or my local council as the cyrenians are a charity. Thank you

I would contact the police immediately, you are being threatened. They will help you with the noise problem too. I am amazed you haven't contacted them earlier. Good luck hun, nobody should have to live with that. I know from personal experience as I moved into a flat below what appeared to be 27 rasta's. The stress from noise and drug busts, not to mention the threatening behaviour gave me a breakdown. The police were brilliant though.

Legal action could cost you a lot of money and there is no need for this. I had a really terrible time w ith attacks and
violent abuse from neighbours and the Council was absolutely brilliant. Get in touch with the Police by reporting every single incident. They will give a crime number (URN) for every offence that you report and, frankly, the more the merrier from the point of view of getting things done. At the same time get in touch with the anti social behaviour unit at your local Council. They will tell you exactly what to do and, in all probability, someone will come to see you.

A work of warning. This can take some time to resolve and you may have to keep a diary for the asbo unit. Please stick at it though because the rewards are worth it. Best of luck.

Your local council, as they are going to be your best friends in this situation. Get in touch with the Environmental Health Department and ask them to come along and investigate. Their noise nuisance officer will be able to measure the decibel level of the noise and bring proceedings against the people involved. Meanwhile, keep a careful log of all incidents, recording dates, times and general effect upon your well being and that of your daughter. The threats against you are a matter for the police and should be handled separately. What you've got to face up to is that once these people have been summonsed to court, they are likely to get nastier. That is why you should approach the police now to see what action can be taken under the Public Order Act.

If you live in the USA, most states make charities immune from prosecution. But, even so, the people who are playing the music and threatening you are responsible for their own actions.
The next time the music is too loud (most cities have laws about loud music after 10 pm) call the local police and report a noise complaint. Call every time it happens.
If someone threatens or harasses you, call the police and
report it every time.
After a lot of complaints, the police will put more patrols through there.
Go to your local city council and provide them with a notarised written complaint. If they don't do anything within a week, complain to the mayor's office with another notarised letter. If no response within a week, send another notarised letter to your local rep in state congress. If no response within a week, send more notarised letters to your state senate reps.
If no response, send letters to the governor's office and call them as well.
You probably won't have to take it that far, though.

I would get evidence of there noise making and threats.
You do not have to advise you are setting up cameras as it is within your home boundry and make sure it is pointing at something in your drive or garden but angle it so it can also see the goings on.

I would seek advise from the police and also your local council. They can obtain orders that control noise and harrasment.

Dont get into verbal confrontations as these can escalate. If they want to play load music and make alot of noise and threaten you let. them soon enough you will have the evidence to go to court.

Remember though you have children. always protect them as you do already and if you or your family feel threatened call the police

You can take out an action for nuisance but you do need some evidence but I would first start with the Environmental Health Dept of your local council. the noise abasement officer works in that department. I

If you have local laws regarding disruption of the peace, and you are receiving threats of robbery, then you should definitely have some legal recourse. Do you contact the police every time they threaten you and everytime the music is too loud? I would do this, and also retain copies of the police reports, to give to an attorney to handle your case.
