Upon waiting for my order at a well known fast food restaurant, an employee referred to me a racist word in spanish not knowing I spoke and understood the language. I was devastated to know that he was a manager and used that negative word to describe a person waiting for her food. It is amazing when I responded in his native language he was very shocked let alone is disbelief that I understood what he said. How long has he been getting away with this?

1) It's called public accommodation discrimination.

2) The gist is that regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, etc... Be advised not all states recognize all of those.

3) No attorney will take your case. No money in it, what happened was not severe, and cases can drag on forever. Courts look to the totality and severity of the circumstances. You don't have proof or witnesses.

4) Civil rights lawyers handle these cases but they often end up at the state's Human Rights Commission where years pass and you wont see a penny.

5) Human Rights Commissions are overwhelmed and backlogged because of more serious problems. More serious problems include: denial of service dog in business, refusal to provide accommodations to disabled, and racial housing discrimination.

PAD is something people in Alabama died fighting for in the 1960's. They were beat to death with metal pipes trying to get public establishments to treat African Americans equally. The laws have been expanded over the years to cover gender and religion.

I hope that puts things in perspective for you. Don't go to that restuarant again if you don't like the remarks. Suing everyone over every little thing is one reason this country is so messed up. Eventually they'll either clean up their language or go out of business.

What discrimination? You got served didnt you? He has the right to say what he wants. While I agree he was wrong to do it in the workplace in front of customers I dont see any discrimination.
