It’s not that simple. During the cold war the US was both a force for good and a country that upset global stability.

Since then (particularly in the GWB years) the US has become more a force for global instability - Iraq, policies in Israel, the Middle East in general, etc.... The real problem with the USA (as I see it) is that Americans have been brainwashed into thinking the USA is never wrong, foreigners are bad, and anything even slightly left-wing is automatically communist and therefore bad (which means immoral foreign policy is tolerated).

I would say that the USA basically looks out for number 1 (just like any other country). During the cold war (which was largely fought on ideological grounds), the USA was keen to be seen as "good" i.e. prove that democracy was better than communism (and stop the spread of communism/socialism in other countries). This meant that the USA was keen to make democracy look good - the best way to do this was to export notions of individual freedoms, rights, etc... The down side is that the USA used this ideology (and still does in the case of Cuba) to put ridiculous trade restrictions / launch wars on other countries (Cuba and Vietnam). In the case of Vietnam, this country was used as an example of what the USA would do to a country that dared to turn communist. It didn't matter that the USA lost, what mattered was the number of people killed.

So, I guess what I am saying is that the USA looks out for number 1, and that with the end of the cold war the US government has felt less need to justify itself to other countries on ideological grounds - which means the rise of neoliberalism, the further exploitation of third world nations, and the invasion of weak countries such as Iraq. Ideology plays a role, but it is more utilitarian and is designed to suit the USAs economic agenda - that is the acquisition of wealth which is justified by neoliberalism and the "war on terror".

Fortunately or unfortunately, the USA is set to be overtaken by China and/or India as the world hegemonic power (give it 20 - 30 years). This could possibly mean the replacement of the USA with a country even worse, a country that dismisses the role of individual rights (which is the one thing the USA has going for it - I suspect that many countries would be more authoritarian if the USA did not spread the message of individual rights during the cold war years).

--- This is just an opinion, I am aware of how controversial it is both within and outside the USA----

America is a threat to global stability.

We are challenging the threat from radical Islam. That creates great friction and will cause conflict.

Not doing this would condone the spread of this intolerant way of life for the world. We are a force force for good but it's going to destablize things in that region of the world.

I would say that AMerica is a stabilizing factor.

The real reason we are involved in the middle east is really very quite simple, the economy stupid. We live in a time of a global economy. Americas strength lies in its economic strength. Lunatics who disrupt the fabric of society with vest bombs and other terrorist activities disrupts the global economy, which of course hurts Americas strengths and the value of American investments.

It is really quite simple, we need stabilized societies in the world. Those who would argue differently are generally socialists or anti-capitalists and would like nothing better than to see Americas economy and power diminished, regardless of the cost.

The fight today in the world is about Capitalism or Socialism.

America has always been the single most stabilizing force in the world.

I think the majority of people believe if America keeps going it will soon own the world. It's been taking over very slowly and subtely for the past 100 years, through claims of false wars and so on.

I'm not too PC to say what every none American thinks.

Another question : "Is islam a threat to global security?"
if we didnt fight the war on terror, who would ? would the muslims stop trying to take over the world? You know alot about america because of media, now research islam. your email is for india surely you know the damage inflicted on hindus and zorastrians in your country?

Ultimately america fights for its own interests, and we have been named since our country started , by islam as evil and to be condemned or killed.

Wow, you contradict your self in only one sentence: "If the liberals are actually not stopped right here, united statesa. could desire to cave in and that they'll unfold communism all over the area!" If united statesa. collapses, how could "communism" then unfold all over the area? does not it is going to prevail first? I comprehend by posting this you're actually not a deep logician and are totally drunk on the ConKool-help, yet, supply it a relax ok?
