Wouldn't it be better to not let this guy get his swan song? He basically wins when we play his video.

You are so right. Nothing good can come from this 24 hour coverage of that psychopath and his carnage.

To prolong the healing of the families by airing this and giving all this attention to Cho is cruel.

The media just keeps feeding other psyco's with more crazy ideas and feeds their obsession and hatred.

The freaks already know they will be heard. I for one am glad they aired t he swan song so that I can see into the mind of a killer. Maybe it will provide answers and change our system so that people with serious issues like this guy will either get the help they need or be locked up so others do not have to suffer.

I think there is some truth to that...and Cho knew we would air at least part of the video. Unfortunately, in trying to give the public the answers it wants and the families of the victims the closure they need, the media winds up perpetuating this kind of violence. Disturbed individuals don't need much coaxing when it comes to this kind of thing. The angry, violent type of person who commits these kinds of crimes sees that he can martyrized by others. People will be talking about Cho and the shootings at VirginaTech for YEARS to come. He has left his mark on the pages of history and media has helped him do just that. I watched part of the clip this morning on Yahoo's homepage. What an angry, hateful person. Its scary that one person can harbor so much hatred and pull something like this off.

My heart goes out to the victims' families, and the shaken up students at the University. May God bring them them all peace and closure.

A couple of nights ago, I was watching one of the many programs covering the story. And one segment was dedicated to the media's role and responsibility in these such cases. It was suggested that the media, by using superlatives such as biggest, most deaths, highest in history, and so on...they are all but taunting others to 'break the record'. In Cho's manifesto, he referenced the Columbine killers by name.

I don't know if this recent display emboldens them...but clearly, by sending this information to NBC, he wanted to be sure that he was remembered as the one responsible. And when you consider the statistic that of 10,000 teens polled in the US and just under 63% stated that they would rather be famous than anything else...I think that the need to be seen and remembered could be a very dangerous thing.

You have a very good point, but I feel like showing the video shows a really troubled young man. It could help average Americans notice warning signs in depressed teenagers and others around them.

You have a valid point. I do not see any value in showing it. You are also correct that there may, indeed, be a risk in showing it.

I have not felt any need to view it. As far as Cho is concerned, I have seen quite enough.

If one is insane enough to see it that way, then he does win. However, I think the video is shocking enough to frighten anyone.
