I have to lead a discussion in my psychology class this upcoming friday. My topic is Feral Children or Wild Children. What are some thought-provoking questions I can ask the class, to help stimulate them into further discussion?

All answers are appreciated greatly! Thanks.

I saw a PBS program on feral children, thought it was interesting that when a portion of the brain isn't stimulated as a small child , that portion doesn't develop . ie speech. So...maybe why doesn't the brain develop in these children with proper stimulation? It just was very interesting to me , thought I would share

Ok...
Feral children, are they really naughty???

it is just that their behaviour is really a sign/symptom of an underlying syndrome/disability e.g. autism, aspergers syndrome, add, adhd, odd, language disorder.

if undiagnosed what issues will they face..... being labelled as "naughty" rather than being assisted.

or

how many of these children end up in jail? what occupations??

Or are feral children just a result of poor parenting in a world where kids get everything and are never told "NO!"

another idea....what would be the effects on the family of a feral child?? ie effect on siblings, depression in mother, public humiliation etc.......

just a few ideas!

Suggested opening statements:

"We need to get the goddamn corrupt government out of our lives!"

"Via the so-called government, we as parents cannot apply proper discipline to our kids without fear of being unconstitutionally / unjustly accused of crimes, such as child abuse charges for swatting the behind of an out of control kid!"

"We need to hold bad parents 100% responsible for the wrongful acts, and in many cases hard chore crimes that their wild brats are committing, thus if you cannot properly care for your kids, then DON'T HAVE THEM!!!"

Questions:

1. What's better, administering proper punishment for bad behavior, or putting your own kids on ridlin or other such risky drugs?

2. Should we hold parents accountable for their kids behavior up to 18 years of age?

3. Do you agree or disagree that a swift stinging swat or two by hand on the misbehaved little asss of your kid is a better form of punishment than giving him/her a ridiculous time out on a chair in the corner of a room, and or in their bedroom?

4. What can be done to lower the divorce rates of couples of which in most cases is traumatizing, if not extremely emotionally devastating on kids?
