It is such an effusive and pervading feeling which gets manifested in so many forms that to bind it in any definition would be like caging it within a narrow confine.

Because love means something different to each of us.
A definition means, to have a kind of check list and if those points are there, than the thing is like the definition. That means, that there can be also something wrong.
Some people never feel butterflies, some people never feel sad for the one they love - but all of them feel love. And noone can say, only special feelings, he or she chose, would be "love" and the other feelings are not true.
I hope you understadn what I mean - I'm trying to improve my English, so I'm not reaaly good ;-)

he essence of love probably (for I speak as does a blind man about colors), probably lies in its bliss; which is, in other words, that the cessation of love brings death to the lover. This I comprehend very well as in the nature of a hypothesis correlating life and death. But, if love is to be merely by way of hypothesis, why, then lovers lay themselves open to ridicule through their actually falling in love. If, however, love is something real, why, then reality must bear out what lovers say about it. But did one in real life ever hear of, or observe,
such things having taken place, even if there is hearsay to that effect? Here I perceive already one of the contradictions in which love involves a person; for whether this is different for those initiated, that I have no means of knowing; but love certainly does seem to involve people in the most curious contradictions. So we aren't able to give proper direction for lovers.

Because each person feels the effect of love differently. So one may not be in complete agreement with the definition of love given by another person.

The" Day" when the love is defined will be the End of Love from this beautiful Earth. It is just like Heat , Light,Air whose
presence is felt but we cannot see it.
It varies from man to man, place to place, environment to environment, size to size of creature etc.
So, don't measure your shadow (Definition), it will always dodge you.
Hence don't run after definition, just love.

Love is an act of will that seeks the good of the other as other, not as a means towards the fulfillment or realization of our own ego-driven desires.

The term LOVE evokes different feelings and generates different emotions. It is not like the terms electron and proton which we immediately perceive as charged sub-particles of an atom.

Love is a 'Feeling'. It cannot be defined!
Shakespeare said :
"The Lover sees his Helen in an Egyptian brow..."
Helen was extremely beautiful; Egyptian females were often dark,-- with Arabic features often not considered beautiful!
So ,love cannot be defined properly.

Love cannot be explained in words as its a feeling that can only be felt by the heart. Trying to define it or explain it would undermine its beauty and purity:)
