A few reasons I think.
1. Because our minds are clouded with that as preached to us all from so many quarters I think.
2. At school there is rarely a decent careers adviser that is close enough linked to know your capabilities.
3. And even then, (speaking for myself) we change over the years and only really understand what we are good at later in life, by which time it is often too late due to financial commitments to be able to change the path we put ourselves on.
And oh if only I was one of those lucky souls. If I was, I would have loved to have been that careers adviser, helping mould the future in a better way.

Politics used to be a service to your country. Being a senator or congressman was only for a limited term and when you were done you'd return to your family, farm, business, etc. That's how it should be. This allowed plenty of people to enter the political arena, stay for a couple terms then leave. Its been perverted into a lifelong career, building an aura of corruption and dirty dealings. What experience do lifelong politicians bring to the table? How to work the system? People have seen how when you become a politician in today's modern age that your whole life is dug up and how your family is brought into the spot light. People making death threats because of your political beliefs. Is that something you really want to enter and put your family through? Do you want to say you work side by side with people like newt gingrich, ted kennedy or maxine waters? I would hate to deal with people of that sort.

I think we want different things out of life at different times in our life.
Life is give and take..and conceding...even if we knew exactly what we wanted...it does'nt mean we would acheive it
We have lessons to learn from not always getting what we want.
Since I was a teenager I knew what I wanted to do in my life.
I can't say I've been the greatest at it...but at least I tried my best.

The reason this is so difficult is because most of us are to busy either striving for what other people want, or what other people want us to have. To many ego's are taking part in most individuals lives for most to even begin to understand their true self. If you leave such things behind, you can learn to find out what it is YOU desire, and not what everyone else desires, or desires for you.

I'm in the first option. If I knew, of course I'd work hard to achieve it.

I have no idea what I want to do with my life.
We can never pinpoint it because we're indecisive and insecure and fickle.
