Being a Brit and seeing the curent situation in America, I just wanted to know what checks if any, what age, cost and of type of gun you are allowed to buy. And what restrictions are there on carrying the weapon around, are you allowed to walk around the streets legally with one? Do you have to take some kind of test to see if you are of 'sound mind' to have one? Is it true that you can walk into a supermarket and browse through a selection of guns alongside the cereals and pasta?

I understand that the rules may change from state to state, but wanted an outline of how easy it is to obtain one, legally?

Americans can purchase firearms after a criminal background check. Anyone with a felony (and certain misdemeanors such as domestic violence) or mental health issues is rejected.

Anyone aged 18+ can buy long guns (rifle & shotguns) in all states. Some states allow handgun purchases for those age 18-20.

Anyone aged 21+ can buy long guns or handguns in all states.

Wal Marts in some states sell firearms. The firearms section is located in Sporting Goods, not cereal and pasta, lol. I like the convenience of being able to go to one place for all the staples: bread, cheese, milk and bullets!

You cannot be a convicted felon and must be over the age of 21 for a handgun. They require a 3 day waiting period once you purchase the weapon.

This is a constitutional right in America, to own a gun. Its been under attack all my life. There is a socialistic liberalized bunch of people in America that continually push to have the government in more control of it's citizens. This same group of people also push to remove this right to bear arms.

Problem here has been that there is just enough restriction to keep the average person from owning a gun but not enough to keep the psycho crazies from getting one.

If they were to ban the purchase of these, they should ban their purchase by any non-citizen or foreigner, as well as those convicted felons.

The real answer is nothing is going to fix it. How to you stop a determined wacko from doing their evil deeds. Answer: You can't!

Still very easy, thank God. If you are crime-free and can pass a 15-day waiting period, while they check you out (in most states) you are fine to buy a gun. Semi-automatic only. No machine guns. You can buy kits that make the weapon "almost automatic". They are a lot of fun at the rifle range. You can browse in a store as much as you want, but like some places, they are usually in specialty stores that only sell guns. Sometimes pawn shops sell them, then you can browse through used blue jeans, gold rings, used roller skates and so on while you select a gun. You still have to wait, though. Those are always behind a counter and you are watched as you handle one, like a valuable watch or something. Some gun stores also sell fishing and camping gear. Very friendly people. In some cases you have to take a test after watching a video lesson if you want a hand gun. The test costs $25. (Stupid Liberals!) Now, some states make it easier to buy a gun. Types of gun are an issue too. If you buy an antique style "black powder'" firearm, there usually is no waiting period. Those are the kind you pour the powder down the muzzle and ram the ball home before each shot. But people forget, some black powder weapons are 44 cal. six-shot revolvers and are just as potent in a street fight as someone with a 44 cartriage revolver. In some states you can actually wear your pistol on your belt (provided it is in plain sight). Some states let you carry a shotgun on a rack in the back window of your truck for all to see. (Don't drink and drive, though!) You can buy a used .22 pistol for as little as $150. A Russian SKS carbine can be had for about $250. A British Enfield rifle can be had for about the same. (sometimes with bayonet) You can purchase a refurbished and modified Sten Gun (that only shoots one bullet at a time) for $600. (And to think you people made them for $12.00 each back in 1942!) Go to the Shotgun News site. It is really fun. Most historic stuff COMES from England through the SARCO company. When a pistol is concealed is when the law gets different. You need a CDW permit. (Concealed Deadly Weapon) permit. That is hard or easy to get depending on the state you are in. Some states have laws where you cannot buy Vodka yet you can carry a pistol on your belt! I do feel sorry for England and Australia. Since your govt. disarmed your population, the crime rate has skyrocketed. The mugger with a Luger is fairly certain the man with the fat wallet has no gun to stop him. Over here, he is not so sure. Let's hope someday England will care enough for its law abiding citizens and reverse that deadly law. For now, the Japanese make some great-looking model guns that don't shoot. They even control bows and arrows in England, right? Oh, you poor people. With luck it will change. We have Brits come over here specifically to have "shooting holidays" for hunting and target practice.

In AMerica, law abiding citizens have rights, and the second one is the right to bear arms. You see in America the citizens run the country (supposed to) and we trust each other to do the right thing, we are a civilized society and a polite society (when armed). so it is pretty easy, you have to have money, proof of who you are in an acceptable form, fill out a federal and state form, pass a check through the police that you are legal to own a weapon, and voila, there you are.

I do not believe aliens can purchase weapons here, legally.

To carry a concealed weapon you must live in a state that allows it, almost all do today, you must pass yet another background check and you must have some level of training, normally in the law regarding use of force.

If you have been committed for mental care it will show on your record and you may not legally own a weapon. Socialist Democrats in congress however have made it illegal for the system to know you are being treated for mental illness and therefore that would not show on a background check and you probably would be able to purchase. This is a situation that must be changed, CONGRESS must do something to prevent those with mental problems from being able to purchase and that means the doctors are going to have to fess up and it is going to have to be placed on your record. Too many people in America use treatment of mental condition as an excuse, theliberal courts have supported that and this is why so many go get treatment when there is nothing wrong with them, they get caught doing something wrong and then say whoa is me, I am ill. Has to change.

Supermarkets do not sell weapons, at least none that I have ever seen.

So it is easy so to speak, but you do have to be checked for a criminal background, which catches a few people, but since criminals know this, most by their weapons from an illegal source, like a robber or a fence, someone in a criminal enterprise.

I live in Virginia. Basically if you are not a criminal or have a mental history you can buy a gun. Guns are not sold in a supermarket. They are sold in gun shops. You can legally walk in the streets with a gun if it is plain sight. It requires a special permit to carry a concealed gun. The vast majority of guns sold are for hunting and sport shooting. Full automatic guns (machine guns) have been prohibited since the 1930's. You can get one with a federal permit and an extensive background check. The gun shop owner that sold the gun to the VT shooter has sold over 160,000 guns since he has been in business. 6 have been used in a shooting, including suicides.

It wouldnt matter how hard or easy it was to get hold of a gun in any country.

If somebody is of the frame of mind where he wants to go into a university and shoot all around him and has the nerve to do so, he would also have the frame of mind and the nerve to obtain a gun by any means, illegal or not.

A law saying he is not allowed a gun would not make any difference.

Basically there's a background check, a waiting period, then if all is well you purchase a handgun. In the VT shooting the flaw wasn't with the handgun purchase, it was with the people who knew something wasn't Right and didn't take any action. Because if this person would have been sent to mental health maybe it wouldn't have happened. There certainly would have been documentation to be found during a background check.
Another thought - How many lives would still be here if some of those students would have had the ability to defend themselves?

If you want to know a very good vocal coach try to visit https://tr.im/61Jve an online vocal coaching tutorial. Everything, ranging from breathing fundamentals, vocalizing exercises, techniques on singing high and low notes, how to not go off-key/out of tune/off-sync, musicianship and music theory, proper diction and articulation, and a lot more are covered, all in our native language. It can be quite technical in nature, but it really helps since it covers the musical aspect of singing deeply and not just concentrates on how to impress people with your vocal range, riffs and runs and other cliches that do not necessarily make one a complete vocalist.
