Question a)
x = [- 2 ± √(4 - 20) ] / 2
x = [ - 2 ± √(-16)] / 2
x = [ -2 ± 4i ] / 2
x = - 1 ± 2i
x = - 1 + 2i, x = - 1 - 2i
Question b)
x = [12 ± √(144 - 400)] / 8
x = [12 ± √(- 256)] / 8
x = [12 ± 16 i ] / 8
x = 3/2 + 2i, x = 3/2 - 2i

a) roots are (-2+/-(4-20)^0.5)/2= (-2+/-2i)/2

so the compex factors are -i and +i

b) roots are (6 +/- (144-200))/8
the complex parts are (i (56)^0.5 )/8 and -(i(56)^05)/8
