The Varroa Mite, which is not native to America, is infesting honey bee colonies and causing honey bees to die off. This mite first appeared in Florida in the 1980's, but has now spread throughout the United States. It was noted in Kentucky in 1991.

My brother-in-law is a beekeeper in Maryland, and if beekeepers don't take active and ongoing efforts to control and kill the mites, they will kill off a hive of honey bees. In short, Varroa Mites are killing off honey bees. Global warming has nothing to do with it.
