Nothing you mention indicates a reason the fish would have died. A lot more information would be needed to try to figure out the cause, but to be honest it's usually very difficult to figure it out after the fact.

Have you tested the water? If so what where the stats...nitrates, ammonia, ph, gh, and so on? What size tank do you have? What kind of filtration do you have? How long have you had these fish together? What kind of weekly maintainance do you do: water changes and so on? What are all of the stats of your tank?

Just a stab in the dark: Some fish are more sensitive to salt in water than others and will not tolerate it, also some fish are more sensitive to ich medicines than others and do not always survive. I have to guess that the salt killed your catfish and the barb I can't say for sure.

Wish I had a little more info.
