Dont need to have any kind of brain power whatsoever and all the people you see on the show just somehow look like a lower form than that which you get on 'Who wants to be ....'

Its true and you knows it! LOL ..........

No, because the element of luck is much higher in Deal or No Deal, where you do not need "knowledge" and the only skill needed is in assessing probabilities, like in a poker game - and maybe you could add the "balls" to take risks, if that's a skill. In "Millionaire", you first have to know some answers to factual questions and get them out faster than the other contestants, in order to get into the hot-seat at all. And after that you have to either KNOW the answers, or know that you don't know them - and back out with whatever cash you've already gained through knowledge and skill, unless you can see a way to figure out the answer. Apart from a bit of occasional risk-taking with informed guesses based on partial knowledge, luck only comes into it at the three stages (out of 9, 10?) where people have nothing to lose if they make a guess and are wrong. I would have thought anyone who takes part in a lot of pub quizzes would be good at it - and wouldn't that include people from "council estates"? (Your term, not mine.)

The similarity between the two shows is in the format, with the contestant interacting with the audience. I think that is what has made both of them popular. However, "Millionaire" is a quiz show, whereas "Deal" is a gambling show in essence (except that the contestant does not have to put up a stake). There's a thought. Should a gambling show be on before the watershed?

It's a game show...not many gameshows require brain power or extreme intelligence as such, just down to luck.

I haven't noticed many council estate folk on Deal or No Deal - actually a lot of them have JOBS, but probably want ten mins of fame and to win some money which is fair enough.

Far worse is The Price is Right - it seems to be a completely northen preoccupation (I am from Manchester btw) - and they always give rubbish prizes like a week in Tenerife and a Hot tub!

Hi Dave,
I think that you mis-interperet the situation.
No offence, and fair play to your question, and I see the thinking. However :
I live in a nice big house in a rural location, and fall into temptation to get on line to channel 4, bung my details in, for Deal or no Deal often. For the veiwers prize thing.
Pure fun. I am not a gambler, but do have a quid on the Saturday lottery, and another quid or two on the Grand National.
As for appearing on the programme, probably not, as I agree that although the strategy of the game is OK, it doesn't require a lot of brain-power.
I did appear on 15-1 last year, which was fun, but failed at the third hurdle, as my knowledge of the latest single by someone that I'd never heard of was sadly lacking.
I would of loved to go on University Challenge, never got the oppurtunity, but at least it requires some form of higher thought.

Hey Ho - leave it to those folks that mistakenly buy those scratch cards. In the hope that all their financial needs will be catered for. Doubtful, at best.

I fail to understand !

Bob.

what does the council estate have to do with deal or no deal. just because people are at a money disadvantage and want a quick way of getting cash choose to go on that rather then facing 15 potentially risky questions if answered incorrectly.

if you think the council are stupid take it up with them, and not shows like these

I think in some ways Deal or No Deal is the "Who wants to be a millionaire" for the council estate, but in some other ways it isn't. I think Deal or No Deal is for everyone but, in my opinion some people are too greedy, but other people have had tough time and deserve to get a really great big amount of money.

Why don't some people realise that some television programmes are for entertainment. Its not all to stimulate our brains. People who need to be stimulated in that way, go to the documentary channels. Or read a book.

And to the person who asked the question.... 'you knows it' you don't seem to be that smart/ mature/ whatever.

Deal or No Deal and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire are for entertainment. Everyone has different tastes in what entertains them. Just because they watch Deal or No Deal doesn't mean they live on a council estate.

Seriously, people.

Don't really think you've got a valid point. There are loads of game shows on TV which require no kind of brain power and is just a matter of luck. You can only win £250,000.00 on Deal or No Deal so it's not comparable in terms of winnings with WWTBAM. Think you're just trying to have a dig a people that live on Council Estates. Poor show mate.

What is it with people who keep insulting people who live on council estates, or former council estates. They are not stupid and in fact I know a substantial number of geniuses living in these particular areas. My nephew had an IQ of 150 at 4 years of age. I wonder if you can boast the same!!!!

You stuck up snob. You are implying that all council estate residents have low intelligence. Oh so you are upper middle class and have rich parents. I came from a council estate and I am on for straight A's in my A levels. I can't believe people still think like this.

I used to watch dond alot- every day when i was pregnant and it was new but it seems a bit boring now.

Is it just me being cruel or are the only ones that are any good are the ones where they go with a really low amount of money!!

I've not watched Millionaire for ages but have got back into watching it every now and then.

The Challenge channel of cale is briliant- shows all the classic shows like Gladiators, Crystal Maze, Bullseye... magic!!
