I am 140lbs and 5 foot 11 inches. Please explain how this can be achieved. It doesn't matter how. Just send me to the sun. If there are other methods, please enumerate them (like alternatives to the best option).

I'm only accepting realistic answers, meaning only possible with today's technology. For example, a giant catapult is realistic, provided you prove your theory (e.g. a calculation of the force needed for the projectile to reach the sun and how the catapult works).

Will this produce harmful effects to the sun? The Earth?

I do not want it to be deposited in the sun. I don't mind if I get incinerated on the way. That's somehow the point.

If possible, please give a rough figure of the cost (like someone answered, US$25M) and a breakdown of the costs.

There is a company that will shoot some of your ashes into space for about $1,000, but not into the sun.

I have a link to a newspaper article. I couldn't get the company link to work.

My Mom wants to be blasted into space too!

This is a unique question. First off you need to understand that this could never happen. You say you are only accepting realistic answers and this is the realist one there will be. There are two main reasons this would never happen. First, i don't think the government of any country would condone the sending of human remains to the sun. Not that it would cause and damage because it wouldn't, but just because it is weird. Secondly, if somehow you did persuade some government or association that it would be acceptable to shoot you off to the sun when you die you would need an insane amount of cash. I'm talking millions and millions. First of all you would never make it to the sun, whatever you are in would melt and your body would evaporate into space far away from the sun. I don't think there is technology available that would allow you to actually deposit your remains into the sun...I like this question though...is it supposed to be like the phoenix that flys into the sun and burns it wings off or what gave u the idea?

There is no know technology that can send anything to the sun. It is far too hot to even get close.
You want only realistic answers, but the question itself is not realistic, because, the best they could do it shoot you out into space and you would disintegrate, never reaching your destination.
This is the most realistic answer I can give to the question.

The temperature at the surface of the sun is about 10,000 Fahrenheit (5,600 Celsius). The temperature rises from the surface of the sun inward towards the very hot center of the sun where it reaches about 27,000,000 Fahrenheit (15,000,000 Celsius). The temperature of the sun also rises from the surface outward into the solar atmosphere. The uppermost layer of the solar atmosphere, called the corona, reaches temperatures of millions of degrees. The corona is the bright halo of light that can be seen during a total solar eclipse

It would be too expensive and wasteful to send your body to the Sun. However, you may be able to send your ashes, after cremation, as a passenger on a rocket which they send towards comets every few years or so. These are generally headed sunward, and when they reach their target, they deploy whatever instruments they need to, and then the rocket just hangs around, and eventually falls into the Sun, because it has no fuel to go remain in orbit.

There is no (feasible) way to reach the sun by being blasted from the earth, as the gravitational force of the moon, mercury and venus would make you crash into them. You would have to be thrown at a speed many times greater than what can be achieved by current technology. The most practical way would be to put your remains inside a (really) long range missile and direct it towards the sun. That way you would have constant acceleration in the correct direction.

Uh.. how many more years are you going to live? They would need to advance human technology just for you. This has never been done before.

A GIANT CATAPAULT?? What is this a cartoon?

A thousand planet Earths falling into the Sun at once would hardly make it burp.

Not all of you would get there, It will cost an arm and a leg!
Soon Virgin airlines will be making space flights.
There also is Bigelow aerospace, who is developing a outer-atmosphere hotel. You could be launched from there. from there you could use an ION DRIVE to power a craft sunwards.

It'll probably cost alot. It will not effect the sun, your remains will burn up long before they get to the sun.

there is no way your remains would ever get sent to the sun. we do not have that kind of technology. you would burn up before you even get near the sun.
