Convertible is an American English word, Cabriolet is a French word. In car terms, both now mean much the same.
Some manufacturers choose to use one word, some choose the other.

Convertible is the American term for cabriolet......they are the same thing....

The words are used pretty much interchangeably.. However, the technical explanation is that a cabriolet is a two door convertible. 4-door convertibles are referred to as phaetons. Cabriolet just sounds a bit fancier.
