We don't need them and they would get in the way.
Most animals that have tails use them for balance. We don't need them for that. Instead we have unusually large buttocks and upper legs which provide us the extra strength we need to stand erect--which is one of the more notable human characteristics.
Many primates--including gorillas and chimpanzees--are also tailless. They walk using their legs and arms. Monkeys with tails generally spend most of their time in trees and don't use their arms for walking.

Because humans are apes. In fact we are part of the great apes family, along with chimpanzees, gorrillas and orangutans. Apes do not have tails.

We do have a tail, it's at the end of our spine. It's called a tail bone.

We do have one, it is very small thugh and it is not projecting. During the course of evolution it became atrophic, because we don't need it (we don't live on trees etc).
