hmmmmmm, how they got to be swear words, well i guess some words make people say or do different things, and who knows, down the road, say a thousand years from now, if this old earth and the human race, is still human and around, they words used today and perceived as swear words, might not be thought of such at all, now what were these words utilized today as swear words five hundred or even two hundred years ago,???? can you imagine our founding fathers using the current batch that are in the lexicon today? of course i think the word fructative has been corruppted, to you guessed it, and there was an old word sounding like such, way back in midevil times meaning to flourish and propergate, it was also a word used as the word prick is used today, as in pin prick, so anyway, many of these words are legitimate words in other languages, but do not try to say them in mixed or any formal company,or in business, you would be surprised how some people ask for a piece of bread and butter, lol do this research on your own, have fun lol personal opinion, words are fun, hilarious actually, and i guess we really do need to laugh at ourselves at least where words and language are concerned

The problem with a 'swear word' is the intent behind it. Swearing nowadays is so common most people don't even seem fazed by it. Most people who use 'swear words' are really to intellectually handicapped to truly articulate, or portray, their point of view. I really do not see Biscuits turning into a 'swear word' anytime soon. Would you like a sausage with two biscuits on the side. Sorry couldn't resist.

That is a good question. I think that maybe the word was invented first for another purpose, then people used the word in an offensive way and changed it into a swear word.

The only reason swear words are swear words is because people associate bad meaning to them.

First of all 'Swear Words' are simply words that someone has decided to make off limits to others as a way of controlling them. In my opinion 'Swear Words' for the most part are simply exclamations and we have a tendency to exclaim uncontrollably. When we make these uncontrollable exclamations is the easiest time for these snobs to claim control over others. So, in my opinion you should think of the definition of each word that you want to use and see if it matches what you are trying to convey in any particular situation and use every word in your vocabulary and let the people that consider some words 'Swear Words' deal with their lack of control over you.

the word f**k was invented in 1860 by James McTavish McDougal, a shephard from the Orkney islands, when a sheep called Dolly trod on his toe.
His wife witnessed this and for some reason took offence to the word and kicked him in the shins extremely hard.
Jimmy was not sure why he said the word but tried using it again in the local spar to see the reaction - it was the same one he got from his wife.
He got a few of his mates using it in the local pubs and at their workplaces and a lot of people did not like it so it became what we call a swear word, if used to offend a policeman or a horse and carriage traffic warden it was a hangable offence - ironically Jimmy's wife was hung for telling a traffic warden to f**k off, after receiving a ticket for parking her horse Shergar on a double yellow.

They just developed as a branch of the vernacular of the common people. The upper classes of all civilizations had certain words for certain things...while the lower classes (bear in mind that for a lot of history there hasn't been much of a "middle" class) had different words for the same things. The upper class, being better educated, decided that the different words of the lower class were improper and designated them as "swear words".

well, they werent just "invented". over time a culture or a society began to say a word which parents may not have liked the meaning of, and they forbid their children from using it, making the word bad while the intetion may not have been

That is a good question. I think the answer is that there is a time and a place for every word. The problem is that people use those words whether or not the time or the place is right.

Why is there sin? Why is there disrespect between people? Swear words, in my opinion, are used by others when they run out of proper and suitable words to use--either through ignorance, disrespect, or a lack of civility.
