No, I don't believe someone can just stop. Excessive lying, even if it's not due to some psychological disorder, eventually becomes a habit. A person might try to stop, but quite likely the behavior will continue. It becomes very natural for a person to turn to lying rather than facing situations. Those habits are hard to break.

Eventually they may change. But I certainly would not count on change really happening until a long period of time had passed in which they had proven themselves to be trustworthy.

Listen to the song "Flawed Design" by Stabilo. They do a great job addressing this issue.

Lying does become addictive, and it's hard to stop. But like with any addiction, if they work on it they can change it.

I can stop this in its tracks but them again I have many years of training in this area. It it usually a long process to get a person to halt habitual lying. This person's self esteem is in crisis. Most people are not equipped to deal with this.

Ask yourself, why do you want this in your life? It is a reflection on you and a statement of your personal growth.

"One lie is a mother of a thousand lies." Lying is very addictive. Like any other addiction, it just doesnt stop. It needs time.

Tell that someone, you can tell lies to anybody, but you can't lie to yourself.

No. I think that people who do that are compelled to lie, and it is probably for reasons that have nothing to do with anyone but themselves. No one but them can change things, and that is very very difficult to do.
